When you are selling your customers subscription-based products through your website, you have to constantly provide them with value, so that they will keep subscribing.
A great way of doing this is by providing them with digital content that they can download off your site. With the WooCommerce Subscription Downloads plugin, which is an extension of WooCommerce Subscriptions, you can do just this, and it couldn’t be easier to set up.
In this article, I will show you how to install, configure and use this very useful plugin.
Installation
Subscription Downloads requires that you first install WooCommerce Subscriptions.
If you haven’t already done this, purchase, download, and install the Subscription Downloads plugin onto your WooCommerce site.
Configuration and Use
The first step in configuring the plugin is to create an active subscription product using WooCommerce Subscriptions.
Next, create a downloadable product. From the WooCommerce menu, select Products and click Add New. Then, from the Product Type dropdown list, select either Simple Product or Variable Product, and click Downloadable on.
Now, you have to tie this downloadable product to an active subscription product. You do this by clicking the General tab and selecting the subscription product from the Subscriptions dropdown list.
Finally, click the Publish button on the top right-hand corner of the page.
Your customers can then find this downloadable product when they go to their My Accounts page.
Final Words
As you can see, creating digital downloads tied to your subscription products couldn’t be simpler with WooCommerce Subscription Downloads. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to add value to the subscription-based products that you offer.

How to add bulk plans to products in this plugin ? I have 3000 products. I have to manually add plans for 3000 products ? 🙂 This plugin doesn’t show any custom fields for this value with plans added (I mean meta keys), so I can’t bulk edit all products by Woo Advanced Bulk Edit plugin etc. say nothing of CSV bulk update. How such important feature can be missing.
Hi, first of all, great job!
I have one question, I have a downloadable/digital product with subscription for renew every week, every week I update the digital file (then customer have access to new file) is there any way to the customer have access to the older files as well?
Thanks
Hi Simon,
I currently sell multiple digital downloads (ebooks) as separate products on my WooCommerce store. I’m looking to find a way to have ONE product that will contain ALL of the current ebooks and have ability to have ANY new ebooks added in the future.
From what I can tell, the only solution that might help is WooCommerce Subscriptions + Subscription Downloads. But from everything I’ve read about WooCommerce Subscriptions is that it doesn’t look like there is as a way of offering a ONE-TIME Lifetime subscription to customers. Is there another solution you could think of?
You could use the All Products for WooCommerce Subscriptions plugin. The plugin allows you to add subscription plans directly to a simple or variable product. This would allow you to have your lifetime subscription 1 simple product with all your subscription options as well.
