5 Best WooCommerce Payment Gateways for WordPress in 2023

What are the best payment gateways to use on your WooCommerce store in 2023?

Choosing what payment method to use on WooCommerce is important and often overlooked. If you make the mistake of choosing the wrong payment gateway it can cause headaches down the road.

Here are the 5 Best WooCommerce Payment Methods I recommend using on your WooCommerce store!

5 Best Payment Gateways for WooCommerce

Best Overall WooCommerce Payment Gateway: Stripe

The simplest way to accept payments on your WooCommerce store. Choose this one and don’t overthink it.

See my tutorial on how to setup Stripe.

💡 Runner-up: WooCommerce Payments. This is fairly new to WooCommerce but uses Stripe and makes it easier and quicker to setup payments with WooCommerce if you are just starting out.

Best WooCommerce Payment Gateway for Firearms, Alcohol, and THC: Authorize.net

Authorize.net is the best choice if you sell firearms, alcohol, and other items that are normally prohibited by popular payment methods.

I highly recommend choosing Authorize.net as your payment method if you run a restricted business. The plugin is highly rated, built by a reputable team and also has support for automatic recurring payments if you want to sell subscriptions on WooCommerce!

See my tutorial on how to setup Authorize Net on WooCommerce. You can also learn how to setup Authorize.net by following the video below (10,000+ views).

Best WooCommerce Payment Gateway for CBD: Square

Square is my recommended choice if you want to sell CBD products on your WooCommerce store. Even if you are not selling CBD, Square is a very solid payment method on WooCommerce.

Keep in mind that if you do plan to sell products with THC that are over a specific limit I would recommend using Authorize.net since Square has some restrictions with THC.

See my tutorial on how to setup Square.

Best WooCommerce Payment Gateway for Amazon: Amazon Pay

Amazon Pay is a great second payment method to have on your WooCommerce store. I say “second” as I would use Stripe as the primary payment method but still offer Amazon Pay as a second payment method.

Keep in mind that setting up Amazon Pay on your store could be a hassle if you are using a highly customized theme. You may have to add some custom CSS to make sure the columns on the Checkout page are formatted properly.

Best Second WooCommerce Payment Gateway: PayPal

PayPal is a great second payment method to have on your WooCommerce store to complement your primary payment method. How come? Many people already have a PayPal account.

The ideal setup I recommend is using Stripe and also PayPal.

Recently, PayPal has updated their plugin and is now called PayPal Payments.

However, many WooCommerce stores still use PayPal Standard and I highly recommend still using it.

Best New WooCommerce Payment Gateway: WooCommerce Payments

WooCommerce Payments is the best new payment method. WooCommerce recently launched their own payment method that directly integrates with all things WooCommerce.

If your country and business is eligible to use WooCommerce Payments, I recommend using it as your payment method. However, if you are already using Stripe or another quality payment method don’t sweat about making the switch.
